I'm not one to get very angry or upset on court, no good can really come out of that. And it's not the best look either.

I've always tried to be a positive person and player. The mental game is absolutely huge in all sports and especially tennis, it will separate you from being good versus great. It's important to keep your mind as still as calm as possible. When you get angry, your mind will certainly not be very still. If I start to get frustrated in a match, I try my best to recognize it early and slow everything down. The best thing to focus on is your breathing and controlling your heart rate.

In tennis, it's necessary to have a short term memory loss, meaning whatever happened in the previous point, whether good or bad, you need to immediately forget it and move on to the next point to stay in the here. And now. If you hang on to something negative that happened in the previous point and have a hard time letting it go, it's only going to grow and build if it continues to happen throughout the match.

There's no doubt that some days will be more difficult than others. Whether it's something happening with you internally, or outside factors such as wind, that will make tennis a bit harder and more frustrating. But if you can focus on little positives and stay in the present moment, you can eliminate almost all anger from creeping in. Continue to remind yourself to move on to the next point and focus on what's happening in the here and now.

Positivity goes a long way. It could be as simple as pumping yourself up right before the next point and saying come on to yourself. You have to be your own best friend and supporter out there.
